The Yale Club Grand Ballroom was once again the site for the Ben Appelbaum Foundation's 13th annual reception. This year, nearly 200 people were in attendance, including many new people who came to learn about BAF. Former board presidents Skip Vichness and Jeff Ackerman spoke about Ben and how the foundation has carried forward his vision, energy and encouragement to help our mentees. Current board president Peter Boritz outlined our new workshop initiatives and use of social media to grow our outreach efforts.
Thanks to our event sponsors and raffle donors for a successful evening: New York Enterprise Report, Robert Steele of Wolf Haldenstein Adler Freeman & Herz LLP, Tumi Inc., Marilyn and Arnold Miller, Fern and Hersh Cohen. Thanks also to Bruce Pritikin of DDK CPA's and Hollie Brostek of WIA Financial, and Steve Holt of Mandelbaum Salsburg Lazris & Discenza P.C., who have helped BAF with their pro bono services, and to all of our supporters who have made donations to create the endowment that helps run the organization. This year we were thrilled to welcome NFL veterans Scott Brunner (NY Giants) and Bruce Harper (NY Jets) as part of the BAF program.
Also at the reception, many of our mentees made contacts and networked to find help or advice for their business or charity. For example, Ann Sheridan of Bimbo's Buddies needs a contact at a plush-toy company to produce her Bimbo character dog to accompany her new book for pediatric cancer patients. Alicia Kershaw of Gallop NYC needs help creating a training video, writers for oral history stories, social workers and counselors to help develop mental health components for therapeutic horseback riding program in Brooklyn. Dustee Hullinger and Eran Far's art therapy program, Gifted Hands, needs help to design and build-out an art gallery space as well as donations of airconditioners and paint! newsletterIf you can help them please contact BAF.
Please see our event newsletter on the website for more of our mentees' businesses and their contact information.
We encourage you to consider how you might offer help or advice by becoming a dedicated mentor, an informal advisor, or a strategic team member for our mentees. Contact Doreen Berne (doreen@b-a-f.org) 516-883-0488 for more information.
